Faq

Does it cost to view the kazari?

The kazari displays are free to the public.

Where does it take place?

The Tanabata Festival displays are located in the Aratani Central Hall of the Japanese American National Museum (JANM) in Little Tokyo.

Can I learn to make a kazari?

Yes! Anyone can do it. And it’s easy once you know how. The best way to learn is to visit and participate in one of our Kazari Workshops. There are two workshops for 2024 in Little Tokyo: June 17 and June 24. Complete times and dates can be found on the Workshop section of this website.

Also, on Sunday, August 18th from 11am – 4pm a free Kazari workshop will be held in Aratani Central Hall.

How Long is the Event?

The Tanabata Kazari will be displayed from August 10 – 18, 2024.

Please note that due to private events at JANM, Community Kazari viewing inside Aratani Central Hall is unavailable August 11 (all day) and August 17 (after 2 pm).

Where do I buy material to make kazari?

You can purchase all the materials you need at one of our workshops.  If you can’t attend a workshop, you can complete a Kazari Supplies order form and schedule an appointment for pick-up at the JACCC. Shop early for best selection of papers and other material!

How do I enter my kazari in the contest?

Entering your beautiful kazari is easy.  Go to the Contest section and register. It only takes a few minutes to complete. The entry fee is only $10. Registration deadline is Saturday, August 3, 2024.
